The popular Pen Press title, My Journey to Becoming the First Lady Chelsea Pensioner by Winifred Phillips, was picked up by mainstream publisher Simon and Schuster and received outstanding sales when it was published last month. The book, rebranded as Mum's Army, appeared on the Asda '2 for £7' book offer and rocketed up the charts.
As ever, we are over the moon to see one of our self published titles sell so well and we are now enjoying a close relationship with the mainstream publisher in the hope that they will find another one of our hidden gems. The original Pen Press edition of Winifred's memoir is still available, here. Congratulations, Winifred!
The article focuses on the unusual angle the book takes on Lear's life, saying: "Because he never married and his three closest friends were men, it has often been assumed that he was queer in the modern sense. This biography’s chief aim is to demonstrate that he was nothing of the kind."

Author Terry White stood alongside the distributors, signing copies of his book as they were handed out to avid readers at mainline train stations across London. With Gently Smiling Jaws is the first book in the Marcus Moon series and it seems that readers can't get enough! After guzzling the free copy on their commute, Londoners are now sweeping into bookstores to get their hands on the next books in the series.
Norman and Maggie Magowan, authors of the fantastic new Adventures in Yellow series, are proof that hard work pays off in the world of books.
The couple received astounding sales at their first Waterstones event, causing a stir among book buyers in the St Albans branch as they wheeled in the motorbike featured in their travel books. The authors have been taking their books and bikes on tour around the UK, selling copies to eager book-lovers at The Hay On Wye festival in June, and at the British Motorcycle Federation in Peterborough, which they conducted as a charity event for Cancer Research.
